SPA Classic 2017

Ganz viel SPA…

Die Wolken SPArten am Freitag auf der Rennstrecke SPA-Franchochamp nicht mit Wasser. Regen flutete die Rennstrecke und so mancher Rennwagen ist dabei ins schleudern gekommen.

Trotzdem und gerade wegen dem schlechten Wetter kam SPAnung in den Vorläufen zu den SPA Classic 2017 auf.

Die Wagen der GT1 Klasse und ein paar Autos der legendären BPR-Rennserie sind Gäste bei der SPA Classic. Zum SPAziehren fahren sind die Modelle von Ferrari, die Doge Viper, Lamborghini oder der französischen Marke Venturi nicht nach Belgien gereist. Der Club der Supersportwagen hat sich nie zur EntSPAnnung zurückgezogen, nein zum SPAss fährt hier keiner. Es geht um die Ehre den Ruhm vergangener Tage, auch wenn dies erst ein paar Jahre her ist.

Die Gruppe C, die Tourenwagen, alle Rennserien bringen den Zuschauern eine Menge SPAss auf und neben der Strecke. Ganz viel SPAss!

The clouds did not spare water on Friday on the SPA-Franchochamp circuit. Rain flooded the racetrack and so many racing cars have flown.

Nevertheless and due to the bad weather came tension in the preliminary to the SPA Classic 2017 on.

The cars of the GT1 class and a few cars from the legendary BPR race series are guests at the SPA Classic. The models of Ferrari, the Doge Viper, Lamborghini or the French brand Venturi did not go to Belgium for fun. The club of the supersportwagen has never retired to relax, no to the fun drives here none. It is about the honor of the glory of days gone by, even if it was only a few years ago.

The group C, the touring cars, all racing series bring the spectators a lot of fun on and off the track. Very much fun!

Mit der Konstruktion des 911 GT1 ’98 betrat die Rennabteilung des weltberühmten Sportwagen- herstellers technisches Neuland. Nicht ganz acht Wochen, nachdem der 600-PS-Rennmotor des neuen Boliden seinen ersten Brüller tat, fuhren zwei dieser Extrem-Porsche zum Doppelsieg beim härtesten Langstreckenrennen der Welt, den 24 Stunden von Le Mans 1998 in Frankreich. In der weltweiten FIA GT-Serie brachte ein hartes Jahr etliche Podiumsplätze. Ulrich Upietz hatte als einziger Fotograf auch während der geheimen Entwicklungsphase Zugang zu den Büros und Werkstätten des Porsche-Entwicklungszentrums. Designer und Konstrukteure stellten ihm für dieses Buch Entwürfe und Computerzeichnungen zur Verfügung. Rund um den Globus fuhren Porsche 911 GT1-Rennwagen zu zahlreichen Siegen und Meisterschaften 1998. Auch diese Erfolgsstory hat Ulrich Upietz mit Hilfe von Fachjournalisten dokumentiert. Eine umfangreiche Statistik ergänzt dieses 224 Seiten-Porsche-Opus.

With the design of the 911 GT1 ’98, the racing department of the world-famous sports car manufacturer entered new territory. Not quite eight weeks after the 600 horsepower engine of the new Boliden had its first rool-out, two of these extreme Porsche drove to the double victory at the toughest long-distance race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1998 in France. In the worldwide FIA GT series a hard year brought a lot of podium places. Ulrich Upietz was the only photographer to have access to the offices and workshops of the Porsche Development Center during the secret development phase. Designers and engineers provided him with designs and computer drawings for this book. Around the world, Porsche 911 GT1 racing cars went to numerous victories and championships in 1998. Ulrich Upietz also documented this success story with the help of specialist journalists. A comprehensive statistic complements this 224-page Porsche-Opus.

Porsche 959 Boxed Set

To the present day, the Porsche 959 is regarded as one of the most exceptional vehicles in automotive history: a technical marvel with its all-wheel drive, a refined biturbo engine, 450 PS and a top speed of 315 km/h – still breathtaking 30 years after its first roll-out.

The idea behind this tour de force was to build a Porsche that fitted the new Group B regulations just established in 1983: the Group B Porsche. The regulations demanded just 200 vehicles for the homologation, that is why Porsche was able to turn the technological knowledge of that time into a super Porsche equally suitable for the race track and for rallies – which was the intention of the new racing car series. Apart from the races, the homologation vehicles were also meant to go to private owners for the use in road traffic.

Jürgen Lewandowski witnessed the development of the Porsche 959 more than 30 years ago and describes the difficult birth of the super car including the three Paris-Dakar rallies and the Le Mans race.
